Years 3 – 4

Excursion program overview

This program explores the 3Rs + C in context to everyday life. Students learn what it takes to be waste wise!

Half Day Program

Part A – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

  • Wastelands Challenge - Students take on the Wastelands Challenge, following the waste pathway from raw materials to finished product with fun-filled, hands-on activities and environmental games!
  • Recycling Factory - Video demonstrations of the processes involved in recycling materials like aluminium, plastic, paper and glass.
  • Separating Plastics and Metals - Practical demonstrations of how plastics and metals are separated during recycling.

Part B – Composting

  • Compost Bins vs Worm Farms - Students investigate various composting bins and wormeries.
  • Video Microscope - Do worms really have hair? Live compost creatures are revealed using a video microscope.
  • Live Worms - Wonderful worms are explored up close and personal.
  • Giant Compost Bin - Students venture through our incredible shrinking machine to explore inside a compost bin.

Part C – Drama, games plus more!

  • Compost Role Play - Students relive the composting process through a costumed, interactive drama.
  • Tip Time Zone - Students travel through a garbage time zone discovering how the type and build up of waste has changed though history.
  • Bins Bins Bins! - Students go on a compost bin tour in our Climate Change Garden.

Outreach program overview

Most of these activities are included when we come to your school (excluding the Wastelands Challenge and Giant Compost Bin).

and hands on!
