National Bird Day Wednesday 29 October 2008
National Bird Day in Australia has never been more important as many of our birds face extinction with climate change and the drought…..
Australia’s first National Bird Day was created for children in 1909 and was introduced into schools with the support of The Gould League with the Prime Minister Alfred Deakin as its first President.
Today, due to climate change, the removal of habitat and the drought, a National Bird Day in Australia has never been more important. Many Australian birds species are currently facing extinction and over 20 have already been lost over the last hundred years.
To highlight the plight of Australian birds, the Gould League is conducting Australia’s National Bird Day on Wednesday 29th October 2008.
As part of this Day, Gould League will be promoting online information and media program to 9000 schools and the broader community to create awareness of endang ered species and bird watching.
