Excursion program overview

The Living Water Program allows students to explore the effects we have on our stormwater, water conservation and waterway pollution.  Activities include:

• Drains to our Waterways: What is stormwater?  Where does it go?  How do we affect the quality of stormwater? Why do freshwater creatures need clear, clean water? Students discover the answers by participating as characters in the story of stormwater.  The consequences of the rubbish that flow down the systems are considered.
• Multi-media Presentation: An intriguing and entertaining presentation that gives students further insight into issues and concepts introduced by the drama, including real examples of some of the problems discussed and some encouraging solutions.
• Video Microscope: Students will see tiny freshwater creatures as they have never seen them before – right up close!  Pond water samples are examined to discover what lives there and the consequences of pollution and algal growth are considered.
• Hands-on Discovery Activities: Students rotate through a series of activities related to stormwater, the water cycle and water conservation.
• conduct experiments on catchments and run-off
• design a simple litter trap
• discover how a tap works and how to change a washer
• check a house for leaks
• put together a giant water catchment jigsaw!
