Rapt in Recycling

Years Prep - 2

Excursion program overview

Students learn what can go in a recycling bin, and discover what happens after the recycling truck collects them.  Activities include:

  • Introduction Performance – Introduction to the ‘Magic of Recycling’- a “magic” show performed by the Gould League educators demonstrating some of the products which can be made from waste materials.
  • A Visit to ‘Wastelands’ – To follow the pathway of Glass, Plastic, Paper, Aluminium and Steel from raw material to finished product.  Also see what happens to rubbish as it goes down the drains, ride on a recycling truck and visit a landfill site.
  • Pick a PIC – What do the numbers on plastic bottles really mean? Students discover how plastics and metals are separated and recycled, with lots of samples to touch and feel.
  • Rubbish Free Lunch – How could you pack a lunch and end up with virtually no waste?
  • Kid Can Story and Role Play- Students explore the lifecycle of an aluminium can through a great story and see a video demonstration of how aluminium can be recycled. The whole class is involved in a role play dramatisation of the recycling loop for aluminum.

Outreach program overview

Most of these activities are included when we come to your school (excluding the visit to Wastelands).

All activities are heaps of fun, active
and hands on!
