About Waste Wise Schools

The Sustainability Victoria Waste Wise Schools Program assists schools to minimise waste, reduce litter and save money through meaningful integrated learning opportunities. By adopting Waste Wise Schools' practices, some schools have reduced the amount of waste going to landfill by up to 99%. As a result, these schools have saved thousands of dollars.

This support is available to all schools that make a commitment to waste and litter education.

Australia's leading environmental education program

Boy pointingThe Sustainability Victoria Waste Wise Schools Program has been recognised widely as Australia's leading environmental education program. Recently named as the National Energy Globe Winner for Australia and an International Finalist in the Energy Globe World Award for Sustainability, the program also won the 2003 EPA Allen Strom Eureka Prize for Environmental Education and achieves consistently outstanding results in independent evaluations.

Independent evaluations have found that the methodology and outcomes of this highly effective waste minimisation program have achieved outstanding triple bottom line results for schools and that waste wise behaviours are transferred from schools to families in the local community.
