About the Gould League

The Gould League is an independent non-profit charity dedicated to environmental education and training in sustainability for schools and the community.

Family gardeningHow we began

Established in 1909, our organisation has been recognised as an innovator and leader in environmental education with multiple state, national and international awards.

Our programs assist individuals, families and communities to adopt more environmentally sustainable lifestyles and our programs have been a major catalyst for change for many generations of Australian families.

For decades, Gould has been at the forefront of environmental education particularly in Australian schools, reaching hundreds of thousands of children with highly original and effective programs and resources. We create student leaders who in turn influence their families and communities.

Adults consulting

Our work is consistent with the declaration of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014, recognising that education offers opportunities for learning, participation and action and empowerment by building skills and capacity. Education allows people to make informed decision making and assists people to take greater responsibility for their choices, actions and impact.

Australian Gould Leagues - How Does It Work?

Numerous separate Gould League state organisations have existed over the past 100 years. State Gould Leagues remain active in Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia. Former state Gould Leagues of New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania have now ceased operation.

As the oldest and largest group, the Gould League of Victoria, now simply Gould League, has provided nationwide resources and capacity-building services in environmental sustainability education for decades, including to other state-based Gould Leagues, as well as excursion and whole school environmental sustainability programs in Victoria, with offices in Victoria and NSW.

The Gould League has been educating children, their families and communities about the environment and how to live more sustainably within it since 1909 - visit our Centennial Website to find out more about this amazing journey.
