Multicultural School Gardens
Multicultural School Gardens combines community volunteering, multicultural understanding, gardening and cooking into a unique
and enriching whole school environmental education project.

The Multicultural School Gardens project has been funded by the Victorian Government (through the Community Support Fund) and the Department of Education and Training to deliver to forty Victorian schools until the end of 2008.
The Department of Education and Training assists Gould Group in recommending Victorian schools that are within the guidelines of the project criteria. We are pleased to advise that there are now twenty three schools who have established a garden infrastructure and an ongoing school community project since the project's conception.
The Western Bulldogs partnership in this program has generated positive and long-term outcomes for the community and more particularly in communities of new arrivals to the country. The messages of healthy food and fitness compliment through the involvement of the club and their players as role models are a valuable part of the partnership.

Volunteer involvement

As a gardening volunteer, you will be part of this exciting project to help set the garden up and then, along with the students, create a multicultural garden, growing fruit, vegetables and herbs from the many cultures in our community.
You will then continue to be involved as the garden weaves its magic throughout the school and help celebrate the harvest with students by cooking your school-grown produce into traditional dishes and sharing cultural stories and experiences.
Check the list of 2008 participating schools information session times. 2008 information session. Please be aware that you will need a Working with Children Check which is free for volunteers. Forms are avaliable at your local post office.
