COASTAL WEBCARE
Mirror Bush
Mirror bush was brought to Australia from New Zealand to be used in the gardens along the coast. It quickly spread and is a common plant in coastal areas close to cities and towns. Birds feeding on the fleshy, orange red fruit help spread the seeds through their droppings.
Boneseed
Boneseed was brought from South Africa to Australia to stabilise sand dunes. It spread quickly replacing native coastal scrub with the help of rabbits, ants and birds. It has bright yellow flowers of 5 to 8 petals each.
Boxthorn
Originally from South Africa, boxthorn was brought to Australia as a hedge plant for farms. Because the climate in Australia is similar to South Africa and the lack of natural predators this weed has spread into many coastal areas. It's is a dense shrub with sharp pines with small orange red berries.
