Australia Wide
Large sea-hares in rock pools; paper nautilus shells wash up on beaches; on dunes and islands young seabirds hatch in burrows and sandscrapes.
North
Reefs: barracuda come close to rocky inlets; black-finned long toms are leaping. Beach: mud crabs come up on high tide; lesser frigate birds close to shore; large swarms of dragonflies; night herons and sharks wait for turtle hatchlings.
South
Beach: toadfish and porcupine fish wash up; tiny transparent salps at high tide mark; blue swimmer crabs in surf; large sea hares in rockpools; bluebottles and velellas washing up; salmon in shallows; bronze whaler sharks patrol; paper nautilus and violet snails washing up; look for brittle stars in rockpools; arrival of silver trumpeters along Tasmanian coast; shoals of mackerel are followed by barracuda, dolphins and gannets.

Fruit bats appear in mangroves; estuarine crocodiles hatch
