We’re part of Plastic Free July 2014

Plastic-Free-July-logoDid you know that almost every piece of plastic which has ever been produced still exists on Earth somewhere today, or that Australians alone send 1 million tonnes of plastic waste to landfill each year? Mind boggling, right?

That’s why this month Gould League staff and volunteers have pledged to refuse all single-use plastic! That’s shopping bags, plastic cups, straws, plastic packaging… anything that’s supposed to be used once and then thrown away or recycled.

Joined by our friends Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC), CERES Environment Park, Cool Australia, EarthWatch, Farm School, Kids Teaching Kids, OASES, Planet Savers, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne and the Victorian Association of Environmental Education, we are walking the talk in the fight against plastic and it’s impact on our planet.

Plastic Free July was started in Perth by the Western Metropolitan Regional Council’s ‘Earth Carers’ group, and has taken off all over the world!

“Think about it, why would you make something that you are going to use for a few minutes out of a material that’s basically going to last forever…?”
